“Do You Know Where You’re Going To?”

This isn’t just a song by Diana Ross – it’s a critical question!! You’re in business to focus on the things you love. You developed a business plan – when was the last time you checked in on that? Sometimes as business owners we can get so busy providing our products and services that we can forget to check on “where we’re going”.


As you are getting ready to start a new year – ask yourself a few questions:

  • What were my main goals last year?

  • How well did we do towards those goals?

  • What strategies worked well?

  • Which strategies were not effective?

  • Get input/feedback from your employees – how did they see things working or not working? They will have a unique perspective that is critically valuable!


Now for this coming year…review your business plan, last year's results and develop your strategic goals and strategies for the new year. These are not to be confused with “New Year’s Resolutions” which are typically broken by week two! Your new year's strategic goals and strategies are the steps you are going to take to ensure you are on track to hit the milestones you’ve set for your business!


Discuss these with your employees – get their input and truly listen to what they have to provide, ask clarifying questions. It is critically important for your employees to know they are a vital part of your business. If you truly listen to their input, then you can make an informed decision and they will feel their opinions were heard, helping them be more engaged. Remember, these are the people who are going to help your business succeed…or not!
